Great food and a very nice atmosphere. It was the perfect place to go to dinner with my parents and my girlfriend - interesting menu that also contained options for my parents who tend to be attracted to more conservative dishes. The bill was very reasonable. I will return.

The Veranda is an absolutely lovely restaurant. However, the food and service do not live up to the decor. I can tell the appetizer I ordered was a reheat and only lukewarm. My dinner was a bit overcrowded with too many flavors on one plate but the presentation was attractive. The other main issue was the service. The restaurant had three tables occupied and the waiter was just not on top of things. After ordering drinks, the waiter snatched away the wine list which we were still discussing. He had to be asked two times to bring it back. Once the wine was ordered, the wine did not come. I saw the waiter just standing by his station staring off into space. Finally, my husband had to walk to the front of the restaurant to get his wine. The restaurant has everything going for it but just doesn't seem to care about delivering.

Great ambiance....old florida and really a nice feeling. The waiter was a little snooty, the prices were quite high for what you get. Entree prices ranges from around $28 to up to $37. It's kind of a tourist trap in my mind. Three salads on the menu...ONE which you could order singly..the others had to be ordered for TWO...weird. My house salad was "ok" but barely. There was a chili bean concoction plopped on that seemed out of place on my blue cheese house salad. The muffins and pepper jelly were very late in coming to the table but we did scarf them up once we got them...tasty. The entrees were forgettable and pricey. I would go in here..have a drink at the great looking bar and get dinner somewhere else.

Went here for lunch during a two-day business trip to Fort Myers. The ambiance is definitely nice, and even though they say that lunch ends at 2pm, we walked in at 1:45 and stayed well past 2. The price was a bit high (a four jumbo shrimp appetizer is $12). We also had the fried green tomato salad and the chef's special (ham on bread with lots of melted cheese, basically). Other than the appetizer the prices were not outrageous, but still feels more like prices one should get in Boston and not Fort Myers.

My favorite ft Myers restaurant. I give my clients gift certificates for here because I want everyone to try it. Romantic, Old South, tuxedoed waiters... Great service, great food. Corn muffins with red pepper jelly in the bread basket! The fried crab stuffed artichoke hearts are super appetizer. We have never been disappointed. Make sure you allow time for a stop at the piano bar!

We stopped in here on a Thursday in May for lunch. It was around 1 pm and not crowded at all. I still think the best thing about this restaurant is the ambiance and history. It's in a truly beautiful big old house. We each had a special for lunch. I had the chicken with cheese ravioli and my friend had the tilapia with mashed potatoes. We were both quite happy with our meals. Our server was pleasant and friendly. A lovely place.

Outstanding atmosphere, excellent service! Good menu and fantastic food. I would recommend you to try it. A little on the expensive side but worth it. A great place to go for a special occasion.

I have come here before and liked it. It had been a family favorite however this visit really outlined how poor the service has become. You would think they would really try to cater to the year round residents but they do not. First, this was a special occasion. At our table of four there was one 59th wedding anniversary and 2 birthdays. We told them this when we made the reservations and we even asked for a specific table or area. They seated us in a corner next to the doors to the bathrooms. That would be bad enough for any visit but a special occasion? It must have been the waiter's first day as he had to read the specials and at one point had to double check because he said "I cannot even read my own handwriting". At a restaurant such as this is it too much to ask they memorize these things? And, it gets worse. Even after reading the specials, he got them wrong. He said we were to have "whipped potatoes" and what came where Potatoes Au Gratin. Again, not a big deal but you would like to get the food you were expecting. Finally, the vegetables were as bland as could be. And, as you can imagine, this is a very expensive location. So, we decided to pass on the dessert and get out as quick as possible. Too bad, it once was great and the venue is beautiful - the service and just the catering to regulars / taking care of events, was atrocious. I highly recommend you skip this and find another location.

It was my mothers birthday and we always take her here because we are never disappointed. Until now. Firstly they lost our reservation. Finally sat us and waited 15 minutes for a waiter. Onion soup was very good. Oyster Rockefeller was room temp. Salad was never served. New York strip was unseasoned and extremely tough. Could barely cut it. Asked for 2 glasses of wine and he brought 3. Lastly the waiter came by and asked us what dessert we wanted without ever giving us any information about what desserts were offered. Terrible service and very fair food. What a disappointment after 20 years of great food and service. Maybe under new management???

THE GOOD: The location is beautiful. The best part of this restaurant is the architecture and atmosphere created by being located inside two adjoined homes from the early 1900's. THE BAD: The service here, at least in our experience, was not good. The waiter constantly seemed in the weeds and treated us like we were an inconvenience. They had plenty of people clearing plates and pouring water but no one helping the wait staff run food or drinks. THE UGLY: I was disappointed in the food. When I go to a fine dining restaurant I want to be wowed and this experience really fell flat. I ordered one of the fish specials and I do not think my dish was cooked to the proper temperature and it had a gross vein of fat or something similar that was tough and inedible through the center. The drinks from the bar were underwhelming as well. The bottom line is I wouldn't go back and I wish we would have checked the Yelp reviews before we made the reservation because it seems others have had less that fantastic experiences as well.

What ever you do, do not order French onion soup. Salty beyond salty . Over rated and time for a change veranda. Start using someone who has a dream, and not just a career. Think outside the bowl.

It may be worth trying once, but that's probably it. The restaurant is in a really old Colonial home that was converted. The house was nice, but still holds that old feel. There is an outdoor area that seemed cute, but no one was out there. The food was ok, but probably not as good as others in the area. It feels a little stuffy in there, like you have to dress up, but you don't get the feel you are really dining in style. Upscale but not posh. What I did like was that the servers all seemed like older retired guys. They probably moved to the area to retire but continue to work. If you go, the 1 major takeaway and item you have to order is the Caesars salad. If you like the homemade style salad, with egg and anchovies that they make table side in front of you....come and get it here. Those can be hard to find, so you now know you can get it here. That is probably the only thing I would go back for.

As a tourist, I wanted to try something different. I tried this place out, and was very disappointed with the menu. The menu is quite limited (and expensive I might add) and it really doesn't offer anything that I eat. The menu really needs to be expanded if I were to return to the restaurant. Most restaurants usually have at least five pages of different items to looks at, and this restaurant practically only had one page. Seriously?

Dined her last weekend as a celebration to our "College Roomies/Friends Girls Weekend". Charming decor. Food was delicious and well prepared. Deserts were spectacular. The only negative is the waiter was less then attentive. I think when we told him we girls hadn't seen each other in some time that he took that a his cue to leave us alone. Other than the server all else was wonderful. A little pricey, but nice for a special occasion.

We just got back from eating at The Veranda Restaurant (June 11, 2015). We've lived in Fort Myers for two years now and this was our first time at the Veranda. Not sure how that happened since fine dining is in our blood. We are from California and regularly frequent Michelin Star restaurants there whenever possible. When dining out we prefer the best possible dining experience. We only discovered after moving to Florida that there is not one Michelin Star rated restaurant in the whole state. The restaurant itself is impressive in its southern elegance but is somewhat lacking in its service. Our server (Michael) was very good and knowledgeable but not overly friendly. The food was very good also from the artichoke fritters and blue crab cakes with Cajun Remoulade to the beef tournedos topped with lobster and Bernase sauce. Cooked to perfection. We found the only issue we had was the service. Water glasses were not filled timely and the service was slow. We felt somewhat neglected. The Veranda charges Michelin Star prices and appears to be trying for Michelin Star status but slow service and chipped stem ware will continue to be an issue. Will I go back? In a heartbeat. Their food is excellent.

Service was attentive and formal on a busy Friday night. Reminds me of one of those fine dining places of the past trying to hold onto those old traditions. Upkeep is a bit lacking, as the finer details were amiss....spots on carpet, crooked lights in chandeliers, peeling candlesticks in light fixtures. Still, the place is beautiful. Food was nicely presented and portions were HUGE. IF you're hungry, this is the spot to be. Had the escargot app in puff pastry with a superb bleu cheese sauce. Escargot was just ladled over the top of what seemed to be store-bought puff pastry. Husband had the grits and andouille. He seemed to enjoy it. His prime rib was and should be excellent, given this place is known for it. Au jus was as it should be, which is hard to find these days. Not sure it was actually "prime" meat, however. In a day where the dinner salad is an afterthought, these were marvelous. Beautiful greens dressed in a bleu-cheese dressing that was more than generous with its namesake. I had the surf and turf, with a lobster tail stuffed with horrid crab stuffing. The lobster itself was slightly undercooked and not quite freed from the tail...I had to work with it a little too much to free it up. The filet was cooked perfectly and topped with a thin but good bernaise. Given there was so much food, I didn't touch the beautiful looking sides, but I suspect they would have been great. No room whatsoever for dessert. They feed you well here, like it's still the 60's. Given the demographics of the area, this may be an expectation. All in all, it was OK and good for a special occasion or out of town guests. Not sure I'd make it part of my regular spots but can see why this Fort Myers institution still thrives. It's worth the experience.

Verandah fit the bill for our group of four. One is a history buff, and enjoyed the historical photos on the walls which recounted Fort Myers' origins. We stopped in the parlor style bar for cocktails. The single valet does a great job, and even on a week night and in a city that goes to bed at 8, can be expected to be on duty as late as 10 PM. We didn't stay for food this time. Yes, we cheated on Verandah & left her for someone younger -

The ambiente is nice. The Air contidition just right. The dishes are sold at a very High price without beeing worth the Money. For us citizens perhaps a Good Place, for someone who saw a Bit more then just the us not worth the money. Sorry but these is my truth.

After reviewing posts on yelp I made the decision to suprise my love with a suprise birthday dinner at the infamous Veranda. We are in our late 20's early 30's and were suprised byb he stuffy ambience. Everything was way overpriced for the quality and presentation. My other half got a fillet which was a nice piece of meat yet unseasoned and I got scallops which were over cooked and unseasoned as well. I would recommend twisted vine in down town fort myers instead of this place. Better ambience food and prices.

Very, very fresh seafood. We had the snapper ($32) and the oyster Rockefeller ($9). I think there was a bit too much cheese on the oyster rockefeller. My Dad thought the red wine by the glass was ok. Very attentive staff and it's absolutely beautiful to sit in the open courtyard in the evening.

Overview - This is an 'old school' restaurant in the sense that all the wait staff have been there far too long and seem to think you are lucky for them to wait on you. Some of the food is excellent and some is average to poor. This place is not worth the prices (entrees $25-$60) and the good dishes are not worth the bad dishes or poor service. Atmosphere - Stuck up and snooty. We walked by a group of 4 wait staff when entering and rather than getting a smile and a hello they looked us up and down as if we should not have been there. (We were in semi-formal attire, while others there were in shorts and baseball caps so I am not sure why we offended their sensibilities). We should have left at that point. Drinks - Cocktail menu is average and they have a decent wine list. I ordered a martini with a twist and it turned up with olives. I mentioned this to the waiter and rather than bring me the right drink he went and got me a lemon peel in a napkin. I was too amazed that it happened to say anything. Food - The mixed seafood platter was really excellent. The steaks were very good and well cooked to the requested temperature. All the appetizers (oysters Rockefeller, shrimp cocktail, blue crab cakes) were very very disappointing. They all tasted like they were cooked from frozen and the presentation was poor. The house salads were wilted like they had prepped them on the plates at the start of the night. The fish special wall full of bones, dry and inedible. I had to send it back which was the first time ever for a 'special'. Dessert - Only 2 of our party ordered desserts. We had mentioned to the waiter that it was my mothers birthday. Instead of provide a birthday dessert the waiter stuck a candle in the dessert one of the other people had ordered and presented it to my mother. The person who ordered the dessert then had to remove the candle. All of these issues were politely mentioned at the time. There was no apology and nothing was comped (The food that was inedible was taken off the check). The check came out to ~$100 a head and I felt like we had received $30 quality and worthless service. I will never go back and recommend you try somewhere else.

We couldn't have been more pleased with our meal! We had the specials of the day, tournedos with lobster and the red fish with crab. From start to finish, the service was excellent and our server, Michael Costello, was attentive and very personable. It was our first visit and it will not be our last. It was the end of a very busy day and we were made to feel at ease in a very inviting atmosphere. We were seated indoors but they also have a lovely courtyard. If you are seeking excellent food and wonderful service, you shouldn't be disappointed. Prices were what we expected and well worth it! There is a dressy casual suggestion as to attire (but were very kind to allow one member of our party in shorts to be seated)..

Every time I eat here, it's one of the best meals I have had in a long time. It is definitely expensive, don't get me wrong. But everything is fresh and cooked perfectly! Keep an eye out for the prime rib (only available once a week) and their super-fresh seafood dishes. The last one I had, I can't recall it's name, but it was like a broth with scallops, mussels, shrimp, and other fish, with crusty bread to soak up the sauce (impolite I know, but sometimes necessary). It was fantastic! They also make some impeccable cocktails, including one of the best manhattans in town! For a formal dinner, like a celebration or when relatives visit, this is the perfect place.

I went here this afternoon and ate lunch with a friend.. I must say the place is beautiful (1st timers) We were seated in the bar area which we both weren't to keen on sitting there, but the dinning room did seem a little full. Our servers name was Sabrina and I gotta say she was absolutely horrible hince the two stars. We had to ask another server to find our server to begin with. When she arrived we asked for a drink menu and told her we were also ready to order. She walks off without taking our orders. This happens two more times (placing our wine order and her coming back to drop off our wine) Finally about 10 minutes later she takes our order apparently when she is ready. Our food was delicious. She proceeds to ask us if we want coffee and dessert while my friend has a full plate of food in front of him. After we both had finished we did order coffee, dessert and more wine. Like I said our meal was delicious and because of that we may return. We'll have to make sure we're not seated in her section. Wish I could give more stars but the service ruined our experience.

Obviously, at one time, this was a great place to dine, but certainly no more. I'll eat at McDonald's for a special occasion, rather than here. We have a tiny dog who can't be left alone yet, so we needed a dog friendly restaurant that was special enough to go for my birthday. We had eaten here a few years ago and really loved it. We made a dog friendly reservation. That day it had rained, so I called to make sure we could still sit outside with the dog. They said not if it was raining. It stopped raining so we went. I waited in the outside area, which was wet but there was one table under an overhang that was dry. Access to the table was from French doors in the restaurant. It would have been a perfect spot for my birthday. However, Management refused to seat us because they would not put their wait staff at risk serving outdoors. WHAT RISK???? Wait staff would go from a dry restaurant 2 feet to a dry table on a dry patio. Even though we implored them that it was my birthday, they refused to budge an inch. Is this the kind of treatment you would expect? What happened to polite, gracious, accommodating, understanding, extending themselves for their patrons on their special day, that you would expect from an upscale restaurant that touts these very qualities? Obviously their southern hospitality has GONE WITH THE WIND!!!!

Lunch. Shrimp and Grits, Friday lunch special, was pretty good and reasonably priced. Service with a smile (though two requests for a black pepper mill went unheeded) and outdoor veranda might've been pleasant save for the WAY too-loud musak. Too-soft musak, even, would've been too loud. Made the place feel old-person fuddy-duddy. Cappuccino: dreadful.

Beautiful setting for a special occasion meal. The Veranda has an elegant ambiance, good pianist, and professional wait staff. For some, it may be too loud to allow easy conversation - if so, request a table on their small side porch. The menu offers a good range of meat and seafood - but, the food is just OK. That may not be the objective of a special evening at the Veranda but if it is... I agree with previous reviewers that the meals are minimally seasoned and somewhat bland. The fried green tomatoes are limp lumps. Go for the table side preparation of the ceasar salad.

I LOVE THIS PLACE!! I'm relocating permanently to Cape Coral, FL which is great in many ways... except for the dining. There are many awesome hangouts, but mostly chain restaurants, bar food, and takeout with a few other places sprinkled about Fort Myers and Cape Coral. Although all those places appeal to me, I occasionally really like to get fancy and have a nice, romantic dinner that I can get dressy and not get weird stares. Usually to get to those places, you have to drive to Naples or even Miami. So, when we stumbled upon The Veranda, I was ecstatic! But, was it worth the excitement? To me, yes! As others said, it's like "old-world Florida" and like going to dinner in somebody's house. When we went, there was somebody playing piano in the bar area, which was delightful. The menu was extensive and had something for both of us (who have VERY different tastes). The waiter was very knowledgeable, helpful, and friendly. The food was fantastic. The atmosphere was romantic and cozy. But, also a plus for me, we were not rushed! We were there for like 2 hours (we actually closed the place) and had a lovely time. Yes, it's expensive, but when you go to a place like this, it's not any more or less expensive than restaurants in comparison. I was worried leaving New York would make me really long for good places to eat, but if we can get a few more places like The Veranda, I'd be thrilled! I will certainly be back when I need my fancy-fix again!

One of my Top 3 favorite restaurants in Fort Myers. Absolutely the most romantic restaurant in the downtown district. We've dined here for at least 17 years, intimate dinners, weddings, group functions, and the Millennium New Year, they are all memorable. This restaurant is full of history, it's actually 2 homes that are joined together by a huge kitchen and a stunning courtyard. The first home was built in 1902 and occupied by Manuel Gonzales and his family, the second house was home to his mother. The houses were joined in the 70's for Fingers O'Bannon, and eventually sold and turned into the Veranda. The atmosphere in this place is wonderful, charming piano bar greets you as you enter, along with Denny who is always happy to see you and remembers your name. Most likely you'll be led down the hall past the kitchen that quietly busy humming along. Well appointed tables, are set beautifully with crisp linens and fresh flowers, and all aglow with candles. Waiters are dressed in tuxes, which can be a problem if you bring your husband dressed in one! Two of the outstanding appetizers that we order every time, are the Sesame Encrusted Sea Scallops, which are served with a bit of wasabi, and also the Oysters Rockefeller are delicious, big fat oysters. House salad is really good, served with a black bean compote. The Cesars are my favorite, they're prepared tableside (for 2) , really fresh, and yes you can even have extra anchovies if you ask! They have great specials! When I'm lucky they have exotic meats available, Elk, Antelope, Duck (maybe not exotic) and even Buffalo. But they're not always available. On menu choices, I love the Bourbon Street Filet; Twin Tournedos of Beef in a Smoky Mash Whiskey Sauce, always fresh steamed veggies and of course either a potato or rice side dish of varying flavors. If you have the ability to eat one more thing, for dessert I'd go with Fresh Berries with Heavy Cream & Whipped Cream. If you're thinking about enjoying a romantic night out on the town, make sure you start it at the Veranda.

after my 27 years as a fort myers native, the veranda is still one of my favorite places to go when i'm in town. it's a bit of fort myers society and history, and the vibe is definitely of an era gone by; beautiful patio and nice people. that said, i believe the menu is a tad outdated--though maybe that's part of the charm. i rarely stray from my beloved crabcakes, but the burger is good. my major gripe with this place is with the "Fried Green Tomato Salad". it is so good, with chunks of caramelized ham and lots of blue cheese, but the tomatoes themselves are a TRAVESTY! beer battered green tomatoes?!?!? soggy, heavy, and overpowering--were there actually green tomatoes in all that gunk? delicate cornmeal would be much better suited. i was so, so sad to see those lumbering hockey pucks of fried dough atop what was otherwise delicious salad....Veranda, is you're reading this--change it! that said, love this place and all the memories i have there.

This was very unusual to me. I have never gone to a resturant and looked like i was going into someones home. I very much enjoyed it very romantic piano playing in the background as you enjoy your meal with your friends. There even is some singalongs. I would definetly return. Make sure you make a reservation. Staff is also very nice. Prime Rib a must. Happy Eating

We have been here 3 times now over the past few years. The servers are very helpful and knowledgable. the seafood appetizer of scallops and wasabi was great. I had the lamb chops and was disappointed. Medium rare was dry. The chianti we ordered was overpriced by 30 dollars. Great having the red laser on iPhone to evaluate the price of the wine. Dessert was good. Overall enjoyable but still could use work.

I went to the Veranda Restaurant once two or three years ago. I am a lady in my 60's and I was with another lady. I'm handicapped and wear a large brace on my left leg. The host led the way to a table held out a chair for my friend and seated her. He ignored me, left me standing by the table and walked away. I felt humiliated and have no clue what we ate. My friend was taking me out to lunch and we thought this would be a lovely upscale place reflecting gracious Southern hospitality. I wrote a note of complaint to their management. They did not respond. I reported the incident to the local Better Business Bureau. Only then did I hear from them. They said somehow they misplaced my note of complaint. I received no apology nor was there an attempt to rectify the incident. I felt that was treated disrespectfully both by the waitstaff and the management of the Veranda Restaurant. I would never go back there and I do not recommend it.

Romantic, consistant, delicious and out of the ordinary. This delicious restaraunt sits inside a perfectly lovely Victorian house in downtown Fort Myers. The staff is amazing, we go for all our special occasions and even if we only make it there 2 or 3 times a year the manager, Denny always remembers us and greets us BY NAME! I think that is amazing. The food is fantastic every single time. Great wine selection too. We have had a lot of great times here!

The food was delicious and the outdoor garden looked beautiful for dining. We were not seated out there because a wedding rehearsal was taking place. The service was slow but good. Since there isn't a large selection of fine dining in Ft Myers, I recommend this place for special occasions.
